Legacy Park Mosaic Project

Request for Proposals – Legacy Park Mosaic Project
The City of Lethbridge is inviting Artists to submit proposals for a public art project in conjunction with the establishment of a new 30-hectare regional park located in the Uplands/Blackwolf neighborhoods on the city’s north side. The successful Artist will be contracted to create an exterior mosaic on the Legacy Park Group Picnic Shelter. The proposed artwork should attract users of all demographics to the space while helping to create a warm and inviting community gathering space. The west-facing side of the wall is highly visible to a main parking lot and is positioned as a sort of “welcoming sign” – something that will be many visitors’ first experience of Legacy Park. Both sides of the 3.2m high x 7.95m wide wall are available to the artist. The contracted artist will also lead a process to mentor a local emerging artist. The mentorship is intended to provide a local artist with an introduction to the mosaic process as well as providing them with skills to work independently on future projects.

Background:
Design for Legacy Park began in 2009 and included the formation of a community advisory committee, as well as multiple public engagement sessions. Layout of the park is purposefully driven with the western half offering open space and passive activities and the eastern half offering active recreation. The transition between the two occurs by way of pathways, a community pavilion and picnic shelters.

This opportunity closes on: September 8, 2021
