Wrangling Willie and the Wind Eater

Alex Pavlenko,

2005

This kinetic sculpture started as a concept for a durable, ornamental windsock. “Willie” is fabricated from light gauge aluminum sheeting that is riveted together, features a rotor in the front to add to the motion effects and finally the windsock was personified with an early era airman. The airman is also intended to provide a link to the air show and commemorate Lethbridge’s flight history in a whimsical way.

This sculpture came from a project between Downtown Business Revitalization Zone and the City of Lethbridge’s Heart of Our City Revitalization Committee.
