Together offers a ‘social infrastructure’ for community-making. Composed of twenty-six abstractly simple seats, the artwork references the universal and anthropomorphic qualities of the chair, while at the same time blurring the boundaries between the individual seats through aggregation and a bold use of colour. The work aims to evoke the multifaceted identity of individuals blurred by relationships formed, stories told and memories made, and the overall complexity of Canada’s multicultural identity. Together symbolizes community but it also fosters community by providing seating elements that may be occupied by passers-by, sparking small conversations and social interactions at this gateway to the Lethbridge downtown.
