Backyard Wilderness

Leila Armstrong,

2021

Part of a larger project of the same name and reflects my ongoing interest in urban wildlife. I want to represent species common to the city and have people pause and (re)consider their relationship to these animals. For example, skunks may cause fear and alarm but are also the gardener’s friend, eating grasshoppers, grubs, beetles, crickets, cutworms, slugs, and wasps.

This piece was part of the Utility Box Vinyl Wrap Pilot Project which had a total budget of $15,000 across six locations, for artist fees, fabrication and installation.*
